    Description

    Touted to be Singapore’s first ‘restaurant with rooms’, The English House is designed to give diners a taste of what it’ll be like dining in the home of British legend Marco Pierre White. Lush green foliage at the entrance gives way to dimly-lit interiors decked with Terry O’Neill photographs, while jazz music plays softly in the background.

    From the menu comes British classics like fish and chips and beef wellington. The former is no greasy battered fish served in a newspaper cone; instead, White brings in top-grade English turbot, lightly-battered and served with thick, golden chips cooked in beef fat. Order mains like the Grilled Rib of Black Angus Beef and the Honey Roast Belly Pork Marco Polo to share. The Honey Roast Pork Belly comes piping hot in a claypot, where four generous slabs of unctuous meat lie on a bed of fried kway teow. The smoky rice noodles, together with the marbled meat and crunchy pieces of crackling are a wonderful combination that will keep you coming back for more.

    Save some space for desserts — portions are dainty enough to have one all by yourself. Top picks include a wobbly English Egg Custard that tastes like a refined egg tart, or opt for a lighter dish of Champagne Poached Pear with a luscious creme vanilla. (Feb 2019)
