    Description

The words ‘French’ and ‘chicken’ conjure up a couple of images for us. One is Julia Child. Another is quaint, homey poultry, finished with something simple -- butter, perhaps, or mustard. And if there is a place in Singapore where the two words come together in a quick, affordable, and fuss-free place, it is undoubtedly Poulet.

Look carefully at the decor of any Poulet outlet and you’re sure to find whispers of Paris. From the elegant modern wooden chairs to the hints of the arches of the famous Eiffel Tower, each Poulet outlet is designed as a space for casual comfort food with a view of an open kitchen where you can see chefs at work and smell the aroma of fresh produce.

The name itself means ‘chicken’ in French, and if that doesn’t give you a sufficient enough clue to what it specialises in (like, in case you think it's a metaphor for something else), a peek into the menu will reveal chicken dishes cooked in different ways. The star, though, is Poulét Roti, an amazing French roast chicken that is served in freshly homemade cranberry sauce and double mustard. That dish alone makes me think of Julia Child and of the romance of Paris. It arrives at your table looking unspectacular -- no flaming chicken or long introductions here -- but as you pull the meat off the bone and smudge it with cranberry and mustard, you are hit by the balance of flavours and textures from the tender chicken, sweet-sour cranberry, and musky-spicy mustard. Simply divine. (Aug 2016)

    The Buzz

“With that name, you know you have to try their signature rotisserie chicken, served with mushroom Chardonnay sauce. For sweets, their tiramisu is both prettily-served and hits that post-prandial spot.” -SG Now
