  Good food and service

  We were welcomed by a sweet Margaret who recommended to us great food choices.This initiative helped us, 1st timers. Gina, Barry & another lady served us warmly. Thanks to Gina again for taking pictures of us. We have loving memories of Violet Oon.

  Nice donner in Singapore

  Food was excellent and service too. The restaurant is located in the national museum and this make it even more special

  Good environment, above average food

  Beef rendang was excellant and a burst of taste, but Nasi Goreng was disappointing - we ended up treating the Nasi Goreng as the "rice" and eating it together - which made it just nice. Went on a weekday lunch but restaurant was full (of mainly tourists) - but not packed to the extent where it is uncomfortable (or unsafe due to COVID). We found a table near the back which was quite secluded so even better. The soup was great too! Dessert was OK but nothing special - just ice cream with purple rice - a standard dessert in Hong Kong (or any Hong Kong dessert shops in SG).

  An absolutely delightful Dinner

  The setting couldn't be better. The National Kichen, housed in Singapore's National Gallery, brought to mind a European salon with clever Peranakan touches here and there.
  The attentive staff were fabulous. Ms. Oon must be so proud of them all. Each member of the team who interacted with our table had answers to each question, had insight to how the food was made and in one instance, brought out the "black Diamond of Peranakan cooking," the buah keluak, to help us understand the fabulous chicken dish we had just eaten. Fabulous crew...every restaurant should have such staff.
  The food did not disappoint. So many highlights. I will dream of the Gado Gado sauce. The chicken with the intriguing buah keluak, reminiscent of black olive and smoky dark chocolate, was a revelation that I did not expect. The rendang was delicious. The absolute stars of the meal were the desserts. Every single one of them was a star. The gula Melaka tea cake was moist and delicious. The Kueh Beng Ka, cassava cake to us Filipinos was delicate and not overly sweet. The Pulot Hitam (black glutinous rice cooked with gula melaka and coconut) is something I'll dream about for a long time.

  Superb

  We dined here on our last night in Singapore and were treated to a night out to remember. The decor is just beautiful, staff really friendly and very helpful, but the food was the star here. The 4 courses were such a diverse combination of flavours and experiences and with me liking it spicy and my wife not so, our tastebuds had lots to enjoy. The wine list isn’t overdone but there’s plenty of variety for every pallet. We would easily have dinner there again and do highly recommend it for an intimate dinner for 2 or a bunch of friends looking for a great night out.
