    Was seated at a corner with an imbalanced table, which was already not a great start. I ordered rice but it took a very long time to arrive. Even after ordering another drink, the wait was so long that I ended up collecting it myself at the counter. The beancurd was quite average and definitely not worth the price – just a few small pieces of tofu. The sweet potato leaves were okay in portion but for the price, I could’ve gotten something similar elsewhere. On the bright side, the cod fish was fragrant and tasty, and the portion size made it feel worthwhile. The satay was alright in terms of flavor, but again, felt overpriced – could easily get similar quality at a hawker center for less. Overall, service and value were disappointing, though a couple of dishes stood out.

    It was my first time there, the reservation system is quite messed up, it’s like even if you made a reservation you still have to join the same queue as the people who did not make reservation. i understand that they are busy, and we waited patiently for the food which take 1 hour plus to arrive. I was shocked and disappointed at the manager, during payment, we did not ate the appetizer so we informed the manager at the cashier and she removed and showed us the updated receipt cost, so after checking everything is correct, I proceed to make payment using visa, when the notification pop up after the transaction went through, that’s when i realise she still charge me amount with the appetizer, so i went to clarify with her, and she knew i paid extra as she told me ‘yes i key in the amount’ and mention she will return the extras in cash, furthermore there were no apology. Felt like i’ll get scam if i were to eat there and not check my transaction when i make payment.

    Description

    Mention 180 Yio Chu Kang and your thoughts might jump to House of Seafood. Started in 2008, this restaurant has garnered plenty of fans willing to queue for their fresh seafood and mouth-watering crab dishes, and has now found a spot at The Punggol Settlement.

    It’d be best to go in a group because you won’t want to order just two dishes off the menu. Pan Fried Chicken Cutlet with Special Sauce, Steamed Marble Goby with Soya Sauce, and Sautéed Fresh Hokkaido Scallops with Broccoli are some of the a la carte options you can have, but save some stomach space for their signature crabs. There’re the ever popular options of chilli and black pepper, but for something a little richer, House of Seafood’s salted egg and creamy butter versions are deliciously sinful. What was once at Yio Chu Kang is now at Punggol and the lines are still as long as ever. Who says there aren’t any restaurants in the North worth traveling for? (Dec 2015)
