    Description

The word ‘halia’ means ginger in Malay. While this is a reference to the world-famous Ginger Garden of the Singapore Botanic Gardens where the restaurant is located, the word itself has long been synonymous with comfort for many -- ginger tea, ginger massages. And if comfort is what you are looking for after a hard day at work or a long afternoon of relentless shopping, The Halia is the ideal place for you to kick back and relax in style.

In the historic UNESCO World Heritage Site that is the Singapore Botanic Gardens, The Halia is an inviting space with lush foliage complemented by wood-carved tables and open verandas. This matches the menu well, as modern European cuisine with touches of Asian influences are on offer. Favourites include the Halia Chilli Crab Spaghettini and the Sticky Toffee Pudding with Butterscotch and Vanilla Ice Cream, so be sure to try them. The piquant flavours of the former ensure that you get a taste of one of Singapore’s most beloved dishes, while keeping your hands clean, and the latter is a throwback to a more decadent colonial past.

In keeping with the name, ginger is very much on the menu, with the irreplaceable underground root used in main courses, salads and drinks. The health benefits of ginger are multifold, from relieving digestive problems such as nausea to aiding the loss of appetite, motion sickness, and pain. It certainly is comforting to have all these great upsides in mind as you sip a ginger-infused cocktail, take in the luxuriant foliage, and relax in The Halia. (Aug 2016)
