    Description

    In 2017, Carles Gaig, a celebrated chef whose name is synonymous with Catalan cuisine, opened Gaig Restaurant in Singapore. It was the first international outpost of his original Michelin-starred restaurant in Barcelona. His daughter and 5th generation Gaig, Núria Gibert, led the restaurant with executive chef Martí Carlos Martínez, who was under the tutelage of Carles in Barcelona. Since then, the restaurant won the hearts of local diners with its recipes, some dating back to the 19th century, and its affable heartfelt hospitality that transported them into the typical home of a Catalan family.

    Chef Martí working closely with his mentor Carles and Núria curates an immersive Catalan menu showcasing Gaig's heritage dishes along with innovative fare inspired by memories and traditional recipes. Catalan traditions influence the creations, such as 'mar i muntanya', the pairing of meats and seafood in the same dish to reflect the region's diverse terrain of coast to mountain.

    Keeping true to the original flavours, chef Martí brings his own innovative interpretations to time-honoured recipes, recreating them in a refined, contemporary style. The Gaig philosophy of utilising only the best produce, and treating it with deep respect, dictates that components are house-made with meticulous techniques that highlight the natural flavours of the ingredient.

    Gaig is testament to how the Gaig family has withstood the passage of time and dedicated themselves to bringing the best of Catalan food and culture to diners across the world, whether in Spain or in Singapore. Today's generation continues to fly the flag high, creating new gastronomic milestones in the story of the Gaig family. (Mar 2023)
