    The ambience was really interesting; we felt rather nostalgic as we sat side by side(a group of 10) .It brought back memories of being in my school canteen in SCGS although the folks with me today were my relatives.Had a hearty meal and tge server was very patient and helpful.Cheers! Will be back.👍

    It was a disappointment when we revisited The Canteen cafe yesterday. Instead of the tantalising "wok hei" meals that we enjoyed previously that was cooked by chef chef Joel Ong and the reason we invited another foodie buddy to experience it with us at this cafe. The White Pepper Crab dish was not served piping hot and the sauce was lacking the rich and creamy taste as before. The plate of Chilli Prawns was no way close to alternative of Singapore's popular Chilli Crab.... Small shelled Prawns more likened to Shrimps! Our biggest disappointment was the signature fried Hokkien Mee that was lacking the usual "wok hei" and rich umami taste that we experienced during our previous visit. When queried where was Chef Joel, the waiter whispered "he not here!" with a puzzled look. It makes the great difference which chef cooked with pride and consistency because "Great Food Makes Ordinary Moments Special" especially when cooked by the acclaimed chef Joel Ong!
