    Description

Years later, Emina moved to Singapore. Working as an independent seamstress, she sewed Malay 'baju kurung' for women. During the off-peak festive season, when demand for baju kurung dipped, Emina would sell food from home such as Vietnamese grilled chicken and crepes to the Vietnamese diaspora. Marketing her effort as halal, she would take advanced orders from customers each week. With her trusty trolley she would traverse the country by trains, buses and foot to reach her customers; day and night. Soon enough, the Muslim-Vietnamese community in Singapore caught on and they became regular customers. There she realised that there wasn't any original halal Vietnamese cooking that can be found in Singapore. (Aug 2025)
