For an impressive dining experience, whether it’s for a romantic date, a casual hangout, or business meeting, The Local by Oam Thong Thai Cuisine ticks all the boxes. The breath-taking restaurant is made up of several spaces that feature different vibes – an arrangement which sounds messy on paper but in reality, everything ties together through the thoughtful décor. Lines are clean and accents like antique furniture, carvings, and painted walls provide a Thai ambience without slipping into tacky territory. Cleverly, lighter materials and woods are used for more relaxing rooms which are beautifully lit during the daytime, whilst darker tones give off a statelier and sultrier feel.

At the core of The Local is a dedication to authentic local – see what they did there? – fare. Recipes, featuring plenty of rural dishes not often seen in the city, have remained the same over generations and the chefs faithfully strive to keep a love for long-ago tastes and flavours alive in urbanites who might otherwise never appreciate their cuisine. Have Gang Tai Pla (Southern Style Fish Curry), Goong Phad Sauce Maa-Kham (Stir-fried Prawns with Minced Chicken, Roasted Cashew Nut & Special Homemade Tamarind Sauce), and Coconut Milk Broth with Lotus Stem & Thai Mackerel served to your table or, for something a little more exclusive, opt to have the chef cook right next to you in a private Chef’s Table session.
