Just a few minutes’ walk away from Sai Ying Pun MTR, this cosy Italian restaurant is an intimate spot for a romantic night out in town. You don’t rush a meal here -- instead, dinner is a slow affair to be savoured. Start with a dozen oysters, shucked upon order and dressed in a savoury vinaigrette made from fried shallots. The grilled Spanish octopus is also a treat. A whole tentacle is cooked over flames for a smoky char, and served with a spicy chorizo sausage and pickled jalapeno on the side.

For mains, Cenacolo does a delicious rendition of chicken parmigiana, where a tender fillet of chicken breast is stuffed with spinach and melted mozzarella cheese. Steaks are a must-try at this outfit, and Cenacolo takes their meat seriously. Pick from an assortment of wet or dry-aged beef, aged for three weeks to yield a deep, umami flavour. All steaks come with sides of grilled vegetables or silky-smooth mash, and a choice of bearnaise, mushroom, or cracked pepper sauce.

Pasta dishes here are served in communal portions which are great for sharing. Thick flat noodles in the Fettuccine Duck Ragu are topped with shredded duck confit, roasted tomatoes, and a rich savoury sauce, making it a crowd favourite. The Linguine Granch is a mildly spicy dish chock-full of fresh blue swimmer crab meat and capers, cooked in a chilli and lime white wine sauce. Warm and friendly staff add on to an enjoyable dining experience so sit back, relax, and let the good food, service, and wines wash away the stress of the day. (Jun 2019)
