Located in the swish Athenee Hotel in Bangkok, this is the city’s newest place to see and be seen. The kitchen is helmed by Japanese-American celebrity chef Jeff Ramsey. who has already made a name for himself with his flagship restaurant Babe in Kuala Lumpur. Diners can expect Japanese fusion dishes made with the finest produce imported from Western Japan. Kintsugi reinvents Kaiseki cuisine — a multi-course affair and attempts to bring out the best in every ingredient.

There are several courses on offer here ranging from nine to twelve courses. The dishes combine the finest European ingredients, like foie gras, with Japanese ingredients like unagi. Start with the Ootoro Tartelette, a tuna belly tart served with soy gelee. The tart shell is thin and doesn’t overpower the brine of the tuna belly, which is enhanced by the soy gelee. Another unique must-try is the Babe-N-Dazs, where foie gras is roasted and served with an ice cream sandwich dipped in cognac. The heady sweetness of the ice cream pairs perfectly with the rich, buttery flavour of the foie gras — an unlikely but delicious combination. Cleanse your palate at the end with seasonal fruits like fresh and dried persimmon served with creamy mascarpone and caramelised fig for a light sweet treat. (Dec 20)
